Maharashtra Education Society was founded in 1860 by the great revolutionary Shree Vasudev Balwant Phadke and renowned educationists Shree Laxman Narhar Indapurkar and Shree Waman Prabhakar Bhave. It was formed with the aim of inculcating nationalistic thoughts and creating a generation of strong character and ideals.

At present it runs over 77 institutions including schools, colleges, vocational training institutions and a hospital, in various places in Maharashtra.
